Learn Swimming Technique
As a beginner, one of the hardest skills to accomplish is correct body position.Kids want to keep their heads up. Head up results in legs down.
Think of your body as a seesaw. Legs down mean you sink or constantly struggle to move in the water.
You’re always tired.
With a swim training belt, a child can relax a bit more and stretch his legs out behind him instead of under him.
He can also practice proper arm strokes without concern about sinking.
Once a child knows how to move his arms and legs correctly, swimming is easy.
Remember swimming is a repetitive sport so in this case, “practice makes perfect”.
For an advanced beginner, explain the proper way to use arms and legs and practice with the swim belt aid on for awhile. Then remove the aid and see how your swimmer does. Emphasize the correct horizontal body position with legs outstretched behind him, face in the water just up to the hairline and arms and legs moving correctly.
The beauty of the swim belt is that it allows a swimmer to perform all 6 strokes and 5 kicks correctly. The swimmer can concentrate on just the arms or just the kick without wasting energy and focus while they try to stay up.
Removing the aid after your child has mastered the correct movements will develop a confident and competent swimmer.
